GIG1005 Social Engagement : Preparation
Hi everyone!
Before I get started, I will introduce myself
first. I am Nurul Hanani Binti Mohamad Zameri, first year student in Faculty
Computer Science and Information Technology, majoring in Software Engineering.
I will write a journal regarding how I involved myself in GIG1005 Social
Engagement’s project.
I will explain a little bit about this subject. Social
Engagement or I called it as SE, which consists of 2 credit hours, is a subject
that requires me and my friends to contribute to the society. For us to
contribute something, we have to come up with a project. So this is my in-making-project
journal entries.
Let’s begin!
First Week :
I was told to gather at DK2 for my first ever SE class. I
quite disappointed because I can’t get to see my actual lecture-in-charge for the
project. I knew my lecture was on medical leave so I hope he will recover soon so
that I can see him in the next meeting. With the absence of my lecturer, I had
to combine with other course mates in order for me (and my course mates) to
join the briefing about the project’s guidelines. I gathered with my other course
mates so it’s quite amusing to see everyone in a hall but then, I realized that
I only knew half of them. I rarely met them (either in lecture halls or during
tutorial classes) so I didn’t have the chance to get know others. I am quite
excited and looking forward to work with them!
After the briefing ended, someone purposed an idea to
appoint HICOM for the project. It was a good plan indeed because for sure, a
leader is a must in order to assist the whole course mates. I took part in
voting and of course I chose the ones who qualified for the positions. At last,
my friend, Kisyok Indran has chosen to be the director for this project. I knew
he can lead us well. (shown in Diagram 1)

Second Week :
Second meeting was held in DK2 and there was a short
briefing by other lecturer before she allowed us to discuss about the project.
During that time, I was informed that I have to write a journal for the project’s
timeline which is included the preparation so here I am typing the details!
After it ended, HICOM finally revealed our project which is an IT workshop for
the students! I was really glad that they came up with such a brilliant plan
because nowadays I personally think that students should be exposed more to IT
like yeah we are in 21st Century right? I strongly agreed with the
plan. They also told us that our first choice for the school is SK Bangsar
which located nearby. After that, I was told to choose which bureau that I want
to be for this project. Before this, I only have experienced in Sponsorship
bureau so I think I have to try the other bureaus in order to gain more
experiences so I chose to be in External Affair Bureau. We have a short
discussion about our own roles and tasks to do. At the end, we planned to have
several backup plans for school in case SK Bangsar unable to collaborate with
us.
I can’t participate much in the progress after that because
I have other commitment (FESENI and other collage projects) but I tried my best
to response to our leader of bureau in whatsapp group. I and my other two
friends were in charge for get in touch with one of the teacher from SK
Bangsar. (yes,I forgot to tell that they finally agreed to collaborate with us!)
The progresses in my bureau runs smoothly.
Third Week :
For the third meeting, I have informed that there is a
work-progress presentation for each bureau. My leader was the ones who will
talk in front of the other students about my bureau progress (shown in Diagram 2). As expected, he
did a very good job at presenting! All of the other KBs also did very well in
presenting and at that particular time, I think that everyone was very
well-prepared for the project. I am proud with each of us.

Few days passed after the meeting, people started to talk about COVID-19 issue in Malaysia. The virus were spread faster than I ever imagined. It was getting worse day by day with the rapid increase of victims.
17th March 2020
It was official. All the collage and course projects were
cancelled including this IT Workshop project. It is understandable because I,
myself can’t even predict when all of this disaster ended and of course health
comes first!
18th March 2020
Our Prime Minister has announced the
Restricted Movement Order. I can’t help but stayed at home for the rest of the
month.
Cancelling the workshop, HICOM has informed me and others to
do an animated video for each bureau. The video should covered about the
COVID-19 issue. But after some discussions (actually it was quite a burdensome to
make a video), at last, they decided to have each of us a poster regarding the
same issue. I decided to not involve in a video-making-team because I knew that
I can’t be a much helper as I don’t have any experience in that field.
I believed each of us was quite disappointed because of the
last minute cancellation but trust me, it was for our sake. During the
holidays up until now, I am currently in progress to produce a nice poster. I
hope I can deliver the awareness messages to the society, through the poster,
regarding COVID-19. I hope everyone stay safe and #stayathome! Bye!
